Woods - Sinker Redwood/Macassar (Striped Ebony)

• Sinker Redwood (top)
• Macassar Ebony (back/sides)
Origin: Indonesia
Used On: Limited Editions, Custom Models
Another dense hardwood, Macassar boasts a lot of presence and is typically clear and loud with a broad dynamic range. It seems to be a wood that is uniquely responsive to different playing styles. It has a strong bass and lower mids; clear and transparent highs that respond like an accelerator pedal as you move your right hand closer to the bridge and dig in a bit; and a slightly scooped midrange.

Macassar likes to be played hard, and tends to take a slightly longer period of playing time to open up. When it’s used with a softer top wood like cedar or redwood, it makes a balanced instrument. When topped with Adirondack spruce it becomes an all-out cannon. Some players tend to pull more brightness out of the wood; others, like Bob Taylor, tap into its darker side.

“To me, Macassar has a great ‘low-fi,’ old Gibson vibe,” Bob Taylor says. “It’s dark, it’s dense, it’s heavy. It’s killer for a very manly, old school strum. We put a super clear ‘finishing salt’ on its tonal flavor using our style of construction to brighten it up, but to my ear the tonal beauty of this wood is the low-fi vibe. I love the sound. I bought one.”  - Bob Taylor.

Shape - Grand Symphony (GS)
The GS is the first original shape from Bob Taylor since he unveiled the Grand Auditorium in 1995. Though you might see similarities to a GA, the GS is unique in both sound and design. Significant changes in its geometry yield a deeper, more piano-like bass. The waist is moved a bit higher, then widened 3/8 of an inch. The result is a reduction in the "pinching" of the waist, which releases more tonal output from the guitar. Finally, the lower bout is expanded, making it feel slightly rounder. They're subtle changes that yield a far-from-subtle change in tone. Complementing the GS's robust bass, volume, and low-end sustain are full, rich mids and clear, balanced highs. The GS is a unique sound and a new dimension in Taylor tone.

Inlays - Taylor Mother of Pearl

Electronics - Expression System
Using proprietary pickup technology developed at Taylor, the Expression System amplifies your guitar with an unrivaled, natural live sound. Onboard tone controls provide added flavor, or set flat for an uncolored, exceptionally-clean amplified sound, It's your tone Amplified.

Cutaway - Florentine
An exclusive feature of the Doyle Dykes Signature Model, a Florentine cutaway comes to a sharp point, creating a horn-like shape. It is more complex and labor-intensive than the Venetian, but is available as an option on the 500 Series and up, including those with different neck widths, and left- or right-handed models.

Finish - Gloss
The finish used to create this guitar's lustrous gloss top, back, and sides was developed at Taylor for maximum durability and resistance to cold-checking. This ultra violet-cured finish is also more environmentally friendly than traditional lacquer finishes.
