Product Details

With exceptionally warm and articulate tones, tropical mahogany has established itself among the "tone-wood" elite. Many consider these striking all glossy guitars the ultimate finger pickers—especially the cedar-topped 514ce. Plugged in, they’ll sing out the subtlety of your style loud and clear. Features: • Woods - Mahogany/Cedar
Tropical American Mahogany (back & sides) - "Swietenia macrophylla" Mahogany is supple enough to make excellent, responsive bodies, yet sufficiently strong and stable to use for Taylor's renowned necks. The mahogany used on the 500 Series produces a bright, clear tone, with a unique balance that yields an expressive dynamic range in response to even the lightest touch. This makes the 500 Series guitars especially popular with finger-style guitarists and blues players. The African mahogany used on the 300 Series has similar tonal properties to Tropical American mahogany, while the African Sapele used on the 100 Series, 200 Series, and the Baby Taylor is slightly denser and yields a "tighter" response. The majority of Taylor Series guitars have Tropical American Mahogany necks.
Western Red Cedar (top) - "Thuja plicata" Used for decades as a soundboard material on classical guitars, Cedar is also popular among steel-string enthusiasts. Cedar is a "soft" wood known for producing a "warm,"" mellow tone, one whose overtones are evenly distributed, rather than concentrated on the highs and lows, making it especially suitable for finger-style playing. Cedar's light brown color also lends a guitar a visual warmth that many players find appealing.
• Shape - Grand Auditorium (GA) The Grand Auditorium was the first guitar shape designed from scratch by Bob Taylor. It was unveiled to commemorate the company's 20th Anniversary in 1994, and since then it has more than lived up to its promise. Although the GA has the width and depth of a Dreadnought, its narrower waist gives it the appearance of a smaller instrument, adds treble "zing" across the guitar's tonal spectrum, sharpens the definition of individual notes, and also enables it to rest comfortably in the lap. Because we remove mass from the width of the GA's braces, the guitar top moves faster, resulting in a snappy, bell-like tone. The GA, available as a 6- or 12-sting, is designed to be a strong finger picking guitar that also can handle medium strumming, and is exceptionally versatile. • Inlays - Small Pearl Dots • Electronics - Expression System Using proprietary pickup technology developed at Taylor, the Expression System amplifies your guitar with an unrivaled, natural live sound. Onboard tone controls provide added flavor, or set flat for an uncolored, exceptionally-clean amplified sound, It's your tone Amplified. • Finish - Gloss Top, Back & Sides The finish used to create this guitar's lustrous gloss top, back, and sides was developed at Taylor for maximum durability and resistance to cold-checking. This ultra violet-cured finish us also more environmentally friendly than traditional lacquer finishes.
